Executive at Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta. Part of the solution.

About the blog:

Ed Lovern’s Notes is my personal blog. I created it to share my thoughts on healthcare and how we can all be part of the solution. As a hospital and healthcare system executive with more than 20 years of experience, I have come to believe that meaningful, positive change in our industry will be driven by individuals. Given a variety of forces now in play – political, economic, social and technological – I believe that we are at the early stages of a revolution in healthcare.

Through my work and professional interests, I am continually aware of what might be early breakthroughs or setbacks for this revolution. While I am not an expert on healthcare reform, I am a very interested observer with a unique perspective and, perhaps, unusual insights and access to ask the right questions. I will address a variety of issues, from the latest health news to my experiences as a healthcare executive. I look forward to hearing your feedback as the industry continues to grow and change in the next few years.

My biography:

I am currently the executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta. I joined the organization in 2002 and have served mostly in corporate office roles, except for my tenure as president and chief executive officer of Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga., from 2004 to 2008.

Prior to joining Piedmont, I was the Washington, D.C. bureau chief for Modern Healthcare magazine. I started my healthcare career as an administrative resident, then executive, with Borgess Health in Kalamazoo, Mich. I have a Master of Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts from Randolph-Macon College. My wife, Ginny, and I have two teenage children and live in Atlanta.
